Jan 1-3: Weekend Birthdays
Happy birthday Pat Fischer. Pat was a cornerback who played 10 seasons for the Redskins from 1968-77 and is a member of the 70 Greatest Redskins. Pat appeared in 126 games with the Skins and intercepted 27 balls during his tenure. Pat wore #37 and was a Pro Bowler in 1969. For his career Pat played 17 seasons, was a 3-time Pro Bowler and appeared in 213 games…which was a record for a cornerback at the time of his retirement. Pat was the ultimate overachiever, having played those 17 seasons after originally being drafted in the 17th round! In retirement Pat sold insurance and real estate in my hometown of Manassas, VA. Happy 70th Mr. Fischer.
Happy birthday Jim Dwyer. Jim played 8 seasons for the Orioles from 1981-88’. Jim wore #28 and appeared in 637 games during his Orioles tenure, batting .262. Jim was the ultimate role player, playing all 3 OF positions, as well as 1B and DH. He was especially adept at pinch hitting, he still ranks 16th all-time with 103 pinch hits. Jim’s best season came in 83’ when the Orioles won the world series and Jim hit .286-8-38. In retirement Jim got into coaching and he currently is the hitting coach for Minnesota single A affiliate, the Fort Myers Miracle. Jim now looks very similar to Brian Doyle Murray. Happy 60th Mr. Dwyer.
Happy birthday Virgil Seay. Virgil was a Wide Receiver who played 4 seasons for the Redskins from 1981-84’. Virgil appeared in 49 games, recording 43 receptions for 792 yds and 5 TD’s. Virgil wore #80 and won a Super Bowl as a member of the 82’ squad. Virgil also returned punts and kickoffs as a Redskin. In retirement Virgil is an assistant coach at George Mason and also owns Virgil Seay Sports and Activities, a camp for youths. Happy 52nd Mr. Seay.
Cheers and Hail
